✅ 8.5. Packaging and Labeling Standards

Objective:
Ensure that PCB assemblies are packaged and labeled properly to protect them from damage during shipment and storage and to ensure traceability.

Key Requirements:

  • Anti-static Packaging: Use ESD (Electrostatic Discharge) protective materials to prevent damage from electrostatic discharge (e.g., anti-static bags, trays).

  • Moisture Control: Store components and assemblies in moisture-controlled packaging (e.g., desiccant bags or vacuum-sealed containers) to avoid damage from moisture.

  • Traceability: Ensure proper labeling for traceability, including:

    • Part numbers

    • Lot numbers

    • Manufacture dates

    • Revision numbers

  • Packaging Integrity: Use packaging that prevents physical damage to components during transportation and handling.

Standards:

  • IPC-1601: Standard for ESD control for assemblies.

  • IPC-1071: Requirements for packaging and handling to ensure reliability.

  • J-STD-033: Handling, packing, shipping, and use of moisture-sensitive components.
