✅ 8.5. Packaging and Labeling Standards
Objective:
Ensure that PCB assemblies are packaged and labeled properly to protect them from damage during shipment and storage and to ensure traceability.
Key Requirements:
-
Anti-static Packaging: Use ESD (Electrostatic Discharge) protective materials to prevent damage from electrostatic discharge (e.g., anti-static bags, trays).
-
Moisture Control: Store components and assemblies in moisture-controlled packaging (e.g., desiccant bags or vacuum-sealed containers) to avoid damage from moisture.
-
Traceability: Ensure proper labeling for traceability, including:
-
Part numbers
-
Lot numbers
-
Manufacture dates
-
Revision numbers
-
-
Packaging Integrity: Use packaging that prevents physical damage to components during transportation and handling.
Standards:
-
IPC-1601: Standard for ESD control for assemblies.
-
IPC-1071: Requirements for packaging and handling to ensure reliability.
-
J-STD-033: Handling, packing, shipping, and use of moisture-sensitive components.
