 Categorization of Components

Purpose: Different components have different storage requirements. Categorization helps determine the correct storage method.

Types of Components:

  • Standard Passive Components (e.g., resistors, capacitors)

  • Semiconductors (ICs, transistors)

  • Electromechanical Parts (connectors, relays)

  • Moisture-Sensitive Devices (MSDs) (per JEDEC J-STD-033)

  • Electrostatic Discharge (ESD)-sensitive parts

  • Shelf-life limited parts (e.g., solder paste)

Action:

  • Classify components at the time of receiving.

  • Tag them appropriately based on their handling/storage needs.
